Disney Deal Could Benefit Marvel Comics
Just in case you are just hearing the news, yes it is true. Disney has bought Marvel Entertainment. But you may be wondering what does this all mean? I am here to try my best at helping you figure out just that fact.
According to Marvel.com/news On Friday August 28th The Walt Disney Company announced that it would acquire Marvel Entertainment. Based on the closing stock on that date Marvel was about $50 a share or approximately $4 Billion. To say the least that is a hefty chunk of change. With this acquisition Disney now owns Marvel and its portfolio of over 5,000 characters. Shows like Iron Man Armored Adventures will benefit from
Disney seems to want this buy out not only for a profit but also to help Marvel grow as a company. Disney easily could have waited for Marvel stock to slide down some but they bought it at a point where Marvel was financially stable. This tells me that they have great expectations for Marvel. I mean why else dump $4 Billion just to come in and change everything. Clearly they will not change anything. Everyone at Marvel Comics will still be working, doing everything they normally do.
Another interesting point in the conference was the fact that Disney will help Marvel grow internationally having better connections for an over seas market. I only see good things ahead. Only get worried if you start to see things like random Marvel Executives being fired and replaced with Disney people.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to…well…everything. Case in point: There was a comic book company called CrossGen. It went out of business a few years ago. It was a company that had a lot of unique characters and most if not all their titles was a good read. Disney effectively bought the company and republished most of their work. But at the time Disney never planed on doing anything with CrossGen past publishing old material. But now that they have acquired Marvel it is possible that a whole new universe to play with. A universe I enjoyed reading.
I doubt we will see any strange mash-ups like an Adventure with Spider-Man and Mickey Mouse…at least not yet.
